Merrily We Roll Along follows Franklin Shepard backwards through his life as he remembers the turning points and wonders what might have been. It explores the breaking down of his relationships with his best friends and his first and second wives. Incited by the moment Gussie, his second wife decides to leave him, we follow back from the 70's to the 50's where, just back from the war, Frank and his best friends sing about their hopes for the future. The musical is a poignant look at the paths not taken, and how we end up where we are.
